It is possible to display images in layouts in a scale- and depth-oriented manner. To do this, you must attach the corresponding image files in BMP, JPG, PNG or TIF format to the object as documents. This step requires the document object type '(DOC) Depth-oriented image [DOC_DEPT]' to be installed in the GeoDin system and to be registered in the GeoDin database.
Please proceed as follows:
(1) Check whether the document object type '(DOC) Depth-oriented image [DOC_DEPT]' is installed in your GeODin system. If not, install it now (see Installing object types).
(2) Name your image files (e.g. showing drill cores from individual sections of the drill column) clearly so that you can assign them to the respective depths and add them as documents to the borehole (you may need to register the document description '(DOC) Depth-oriented image [DOC_DEPT]' first in your GeoDin database). The document description type contains fields under the 'Dimensions' tab in which you must enter the depth of the section that the image represents.
TIP: Place all photos of a drill core in one folder (here: folder 'core photos'), this simplifies the display of the images later (see below).
(3) To display depth-oriented images in a way that is true to depth and scale, you need a reference graphic element on the same layout. All graphic elements that are based on the vertical scale of the borehole, such as a borehole log, a well desing or a samples element, are suitable for this. To display the depth-oriented images, use the graphic element 'borehole log' and place it next to the reference element.
(4) Go to the object properties for the borehole log element that is to display the images, and set the data source to Documents. Then use the 'Browse Documents...' button to select the folder containing the depth-oriented images.
By selecting the folder (instead of individual files), all image files inside will be stitched automatically at the correct depths, according to the values entered in the 'Dimensions' tab of the document description type.
Optional specifications for the document description
You can make further settings for image documents that influence how the images are displayed. To do this, open the document management and select one of the images. You can return to the 'Dimensions' window by clicking on the 'Document description' tab.
Pixel position from / to: these settings determine, to which pixel position (lines) the <Depth from> and <Depth to> values refer. Both values refer to the upper margin of the image (top margin of image = pixel position 0).
TIP: If you want to remove an area of the image at the top, simply enter the pixel value up to which the upper part of the image should be removed in the ‘from’ field. The ‘to’ field does not need to be filled in in this case.
Pixel position left / right: this setting is used to cut unwanted margins by entering the first and last pixel which shall be displayed (both positions counted from the left margin of the image).
Pixel position header from / to: an optional header area from the image can be defined, which is displayed like a headline above the image column (both values counted from the top of the image). To display the header area, you have to tick the 'Draw header' checkbox in the object properties of the graphic element under Properties/Document settings/Header.
Rotation angle: optional setting of the angle to rotate the image before mosaicking the parts of the image column
