Step 1: New layout
To create a new layout, open the GeoDin graphics editor using the button at the bottom left of the GeoDin user interface:
Step 2: Page layout
A blank A4 portrait sheet will automatically open. To configure the page size and format, go to Page layout in the Object Properties window (F11) at the top left next to the layout and make the desired settings there.
Step 3: Creating an object frame
Now draw an object frame on the page by selecting the tool for a Single-Object Frame or a Multi-Object Frame, then draw a rectangle in the desired size of the object frame. In most cases, it is advisable to draw the object frame as large as the entire page.
Whether you should choose a Single-Object Frame or a Multi-Object Frame depends on whether you want to display information for one object (single-object frame) or several objects simultaneously (multi-object frame). An object frame is the linking element between the graphic elements and the data in the database - it "retrieves" the data to be displayed.
Step 4: Inserting graphic elements
Now select the graphic element you want to display (e.g., the borehole log). The icons for complex graphic elements in the left toolbar only become active when you have selected the object frame. You can do this by either clicking on the top-left corner of the object frame or simply left-clicking in the layout while holding the CTRL key.
Proceed with the borehole log just as you did with the object frame: select the corresponding tool in the toolbar, then draw a rectangle in the desired size within the object frame. Since the layout is not yet connected to any database, only gray and blue dashed lines will appear on the layout.
Step 5: Linking data
To link data with the layout and display the corresponding borehole log, drag the object (borehole) you want to display from the GeoDin Object Manager's tree view (left column of the GeoDin user interface) onto the layout using drag & drop. The borehole log will now be displayed according to the recorded layer data. If no layer data has been recorded for the selected borehole, an empty frame with a fuchsia-colored dashed line will be shown. You can recognize that the layout is now linked to database data by the small red-colored circle in the top-left corner of the object frame.
Step 6: Inserting additonal information
A Log footer or header can be created to display project information, borehole information, etc., using basic graphic elements (e.g., lines, rectangles, text) and variable text elements that display object-related data from the database.
Further detailed instructions can be found in the GeoDin Help under the chapter Create and Edit Graphics.
