Switching to GeODin 9 (requires an active GeODin 9 license)

To update your GeODin version to GeODin 9 you can either start GeODin and use the internal update function as shown in the screenshot below, or download the latest geodin.exe here, unzip the ZIP file and place the geodin.exe in the BIN-folder of your GeODin installation (you can still keep your old geodin.exe by renaming or moving it first).

When switching to GeODin 9 please note the following points!

Layouts

GeODin layouts (*.GLO) and graphics (*.GGF) once saved with GeODin 9 are no longer compatible with older GeODin versions.
When upgrading to GeODin 9 we recommend that you first backup your layouts if you still want to use them with GeODin 8 or older versions or if you want to pass them on to third parties who have not yet upgraded to GeODin 9.

Print DIN form (Print bore logs)

The "Print DIN formular" method for creating bore logs according to DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung, i.e. German Institute for Standardization) is no longer available in GeODin 9 as a method but in the form of layouts. These layouts are specific to one object type. You can download the DIN layouts for the object types SEP1, SEP3 and EN ISO 22475 here.

Object types & databases

To make effective use of new functions such as the map preview, certain object types (especially input masks and dictionaries) have been adapted specifically for GeODin 9. In addition, the object types have been updated according to current standards and where necessary new dictionaries have been added.
To update your existing object types in GeODin, click on the "System" tab, open the nodes "System Configuration" and "Object Types", then select the appropriate object type and start the "Update" method.
As for some object types a database update is mandatory, you will be asked to make structural changes when opening a database with the respective object types (see screenshot).

Without confirming any mandatory updates, the database cannot be used with GeODin 9.
Please note that databases opened or updated with GeODin 9 are no longer compatible with GeODin 8.3 or older GeODin versions. We therefore recommend backing up your databases and if necessary your syslib directory before updating to GeODin 9. GeODin 9 databases can still be opened and edited with GeODin version 8.4. The appropriate EXE file can be found here (for GeODin 8 customers the update to GeODin 8.4 is free of charge).

More information about database changes can be found in the change dialog by clicking on the blue information button (i) in the "Details" column. You will now see the dialog "Compare object type":

If you have only made the necessary updates to your database and wish to carry out optional updates at a later date, GeODin 9 provides the method "Update object types" in the corresponding database (see screenshot).

Database driver

With GeODin 9 (since Release Build G2510320 from 02.03.2020) all database connections are converted to the FireDAC database driver. Existing ADO-Connections are converted at runtime.
For Access databases, it may be necessary to install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 or Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 in the 32-bit version. If you have any questions or problems with the installation, please contact your system administrator.

System databases

From the Release Build G2520420 of 27.07.2020, the configuration of system databases is only possible directly in GeODin and no longer via the configuration file GEODIN.INI or separate INI files for your databases. In the "System" tab under "System configuration" the node "System databases" is now displayed. Here you can create a new database connection or import an existing system database connection from the GEODIN.INI or the INI file of your database (see screenshot).

The configuration settings of the system databases are stored as CON files in the CONFIG-folder of your GeODin installation. These files can be passed on together with the databases to other users who wish to integrate the corresponding system databases into their GeODin environment (from Release Build G2520420 of 27.07.2020 onwards).

Area object types

If you use object types for area management (e. g. information areas, examination areas) these must be adapted before upgrading to GeODin 9. For more detailed information and instructions please contact the GeODin support team.
